The Museum of Jurassic Technology, in Culver City, California is a small museum cum conceptual art piece. It really does defy description, so I will not even make an attempt. I have been there four times now and I still have not figured it all out. You may have read the book Mr. Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder -- it was on the New York Times bestseller list several years ago and it is a wonderful read about the Museum and its creator, David Wilson. Mr. Wilson is the picture of humility, however, and refuses to take credit for the museum and its wonders. The Culver Hotel is down the street -- it's a fun place to stay . . . the "Munchkins" were residents during the filming of the Wizard of Oz and partook in much revelry and debauched behaviour (as depicted in the Carrie Fisher / Chevy Chase (!) film "Under the Rainbow.") There are also some yummy Indian restaurants nearby. And the Center for Land Use Interpretation is next door, which is also a worthwhile visit. Now, the most wondrous feature of the Museum, to me, is the lovely installation entitled "Garden of Eden on Wheels: Selected Collections from Los Angeles Area Mobile Homes and Trailer Parks." Of course, as he is wont to do, Domo-kun was along for the ride . . . onward >> |
