Our first stop was the cemetery near the Hi Jolly Monument in Quartzsite. A number of the gravesites had critter holes coming out of them, and some had a sunken appearance, as if the occupants went out for a little stroll.
The winter population of Quartzsite increases tenfold as snowbirds and nomads descend upon the outpost and create one of the largest fleamarkets in the country. There are a few fleamarkets and swapmeets open year round; I bought some cute vintage cookbooks and an advice book by Mrs. Flo Ziegfield, Billie Burke.
